Lily Collins is the “Snow White” in the awful-looking Mirror, Mirror, the one with Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. We’ve covered two trailers from the film, both equally terrible, both with increasing levels of hair. Now, some people yelled at me for pointing out Lily Collins’ eyebrow issues – but I just don’t understand how other people can NOT find her eyebrows distracting. This is not a Brooke Shields issue, where a girl is groomed but she just rocks a really strong brow. What’s going on with Lily’s brows looks flat-out unkempt, and I find it difficult to believe that no one at the studio had any problems with it. Beyond the grooming issues, I do think she’s a pretty girl – miscast as Snow White, yes, but pretty. Imagine how much prettier she’d look without the shadowy unibrow.
Anyway, Lily covers the new issue of Seventeen Magazine, and she talks about the fur-covered elephant in the room:
On her eyebrows: “It used to bother me – having bigger, fuller brows. I even plucked them once so I’d fit in, but I hated them and couldn’t wait for them to grow back. Now I embrace them. I’ve realized the quirky things that make you different are what make you beautiful.”
On her last name (she’s the daughter of music legend Phil Collins): “My last name may have opened doors, but I have to keep them open.”
On her celeb crush: “It’s weird to have celebrity crushes now because I could actually meet them or work with them! When I was younger, it was definitely Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic. I had pictures of him and I had ‘NSYNC posted. I had the biggest crush on Justin Timberlake!”
Love advice: “My advice for girls who are waiting for their Prince Charming is to be open for anything. Be open to new experiences, be open to the idea that it may take longer than you want, but if you’re open to meeting new people and new adventures, then love will come along.”

That interview made me like her a little bit. She’s following the same kind of girlish, princessy publicity strategy of someone like Taylor Swift, I think. So, basically, I think she’ll do well in the industry, and I won’t have any problems with that. As for the brows – I understand that she thinks her brows contribute to her individuality (perhaps like Swifty stands up for curly-haired girls). Well, I have brow issues too, but Lily does not represent me. Because I know I look better with my stuff groomed. It’s not a individuality thing – it’s just one of those simple, superficial things that we do to look more attractive.

Admit to Brow-Envy; after yrs of inept plucking to avoid unibrow, am sad seeing ’em thin out. Stepmom uses brow-wax–& had I a defter hand w/cosmetics would surely do the same…

There is a huge difference between plucking a few hairs in between your brows, and under neath to neaten them up, and getting tiny lines for eyebrows. I have no problem with people embracing their full brows at all, but if you are going to wear mascara and blush and a push-up bra to enhance your features, you should also spend 5 minutes plucking a few hairs off to get rid of your unibrow.

Saying “should” about what people choose to do with their appearance, like it’s a moral issue with one correct answer, is pretty ridiculous.
Well, I don’t wear makeup or push-up bras — am I absolved from the edict that I must also spend my valuable time plucking my eyebrows to meet some arbitrary standard?
I’m saying that if you take the time to do all of these other things to meet “the standards of beauty”, then to go along with what society expects of our eyelashes and boobs, it goes to reason that the eyebrows “should” also be cleaned up. If she was a hippy who never wore makeup and wore dreads, and didn’t care what color her nailpolish was, I’d say let her be. And I do say that about everyone who lives their life like that, because its completely their choice to represent themselves however they see fit. But she’s not, so to put so much effort in, and be so beautiful, but be distracted by her eyebrows…it just don’t make sense.
I’m not attacking people who don’t wear makeup, or pluck their eyebrows…I’m just saying that for someone who obviously works on their appearence, it doesn’t make sense not to pluck those few hairs.
But who knows…maybe its all a PR move because we wouldn’t be here arguing about this girl if it weren’t for those brows…so well played, movie company.

I love the fuller eyebrows. I’m totally grossed out by the plucked-to-oblivion then covered up with pencil look.
I am equally grossed out by plucked to oblivion without filling them back in! Overplucking and badly shaped brows look like some horrid OCD condition, and identifies the wearer as a control freak. Just unfortunately nasty. If the plucked brow’s “arch” is between the center of the eye and the nose, it is the WRONG shape, get help.

Omg as a girl from that region, I can attest to that. For the most part WE HAVE MASSIVE body hair issues. I find Collins brows utterly refreshing. Dude I wish I had HER brows because they are sooo much better than the beastly brows that occupy my face if I don’t thread. Girlfriend has confidence too, I like that she addresses the issue with this much confidence and pride instead of in a self deprecating way.
I disagree. I am Indian and I love my thick hair and thick eyebrows. I do get them threaded but they still maintain their thick shape. Indian women are only concerned with body hair which these days you can get lasered away permanetly.

@Asli – dunno if there was an outcry over Gomez and Beiber but, while the age difference is about the same between the couples, Beiber is a minor and Lautner wasn’t a minor during his “relationship” with Collins. That’s probably the reason for the difference

I always over pluck my eyebrows, especially when I am stressed out, which seems to be all the time lately and I don’t have much brow hair to work with already.
I would kill to have that much brow hair, then I could pluck away with no worries.
Right now I am having to use an eyebrow pencil to fill the brows in.

Get them THREADED! It’s the only way to go and those Indian girls do the best brows ever! Mine are thinner, but my daughter’s are lovely and thick, and her lady always tells her never to tweeze, but yes, my 14 yo goes and gets threaded with me once a month.

This movie, from the trailers, looks completely generic, or what i’ve been hearing on the streets, made in china, something about generic fake shit and China producing pirated products all the time . .. Anyways, It does not look like a box office hit, or does it look like the plot would prevent me from falling a sleep from boredom. The acting seen through the trailer is just God awful and the casting is equally bad.

I like her eyebrows. I can see that a few plucks in the middle wouldn’t hurt, but she looks lovely. I HATE when people overpluck their brows — it makes people look older. If you want to look younger, stop with the constant plucking/waxing.
Actually, I think her brows are gorgeous. When I was a teenager and into my late 20’s, I had thick, full eyebrows that I thought wiped me out. Well, after about 10 years of waxing them, I’m now trying to grow in the outer part, which is not so easy. Full brows look very youthful.

They’re not your typical Charlize Theron/Kristin Stewart thin brows. And they ARE trimmed. What you’re complaining about is the sprouts (beginning of her brows) which you’re advised not to mess with because they’re more vulnerable to not growing in properly.

I think she/the stylist is trying to go for the Jennifer Connelly look (well I mean these photos, very 80’s). Except she is nowhere near as beautiful as Jennifer was as a teen/is as a woman. No comparison.

Im a guy with dark thick brows & i dont let my brows connect. Im only just realising that im attracted to pretty girls with thick brows (Jennifer Connelly, Lily Collins etc.) but lord have mercy on our kids eyebrows. And the thing that makes Connelly striking is her eyes against her dark hair & brows but for the record i think Lily is just as pretty.

I think she looks just fine. I have a couple of hairy-ish daughters (biracial = totes dark hair but light skin to show it off to maximum effect, sigh). So I am so totally loving any hairy-ish role models! Go Frida Kahlo!

I love full eyebrows. I get my eyebrows waxed or threaded occasionally because my natural eyebrows are thicker than Lilly’s. But I always have to tell the beautician that I love thick eyebrows and only want to clean up around the edges and wax off the unibrow. Thin eyebrows are not attractive to me at all. There are many women who would kill to have thicker eyebrows and go to great lengths using cosmetics to achieve that affect. I feel fortunate to have thick eyebrows. It is easier for me to pluck strays then to drawing on fake ones.
She’s a pretty girl and the thick eyebrows don’t detract from her looks at all. In fact, I think they make her stand out in a good way.

She could have had her eyebrows plucked just a little to take care of some of the more stray hairs. Think of it this way in that movie they made her so pale that anything else against her skin looked that much more stark and dark and with thick eyebrows it just hurt her look.
Snow White is supposed to be some supeficial gorgeous looking girl whose eyebrows are more well kept and her over all look is supposed to scream her beauty.

Good for Lily. I think she’s a very pretty girl, and I think her eyebrows are both good-looking and distinctive. I have yet to see anything she’s in, but I always recognize her in photographs, which is more than I can say for most young starlets. She’s not had her self-confidence beaten down so that she’s attempting to look as interchangeable as possible. Yet.
It’s not a bad thing to accept something on your face the way it is. Whether you find them distracting isn’t really her problem.
Only in the movie is it her problem, because its her job to look the part of snow. She failed here.

Chill out its not like we say on a normal basis she can’t have these eyebrows. But if I had been the director of Mirror Mirror besides being shut off immediantly or improved, I would have made her do the eyebrow wax.
Lets put it this way she’s on the clock you have to look a certain way to beable to play snow white and when a you can notice is these extremely dark and huge eyebrows that look like furry catiplers against horribly paled skin, well its hard not to feel distracted.
Off the set she’s free to be herself but when she goes into a movie she has to be ready to portray the image of the character, screw her own opinion on the eybrows. She wants to be an actress, she has to follow the writers look.
I’m just saying if I walked into my job without my hair brushed, eyebrows bugging everywhere, smelly breath, and jeans and a tee shirt they’d say go home and change and clean up. So why do we let her on set withtout those being groomed?

As far as acting goes I don’t know if she’s actually any good as this is the ONLY movie I remember her in. I hated the movie btw HATE is a very weak word for how I feel about that piece of garbage, and it shocks me that Julia Roberts ever even thought it was worth her time, she’s really gotten bad judgemnet.

In mirror mirror in the wedding scene she resembles the aura and look of Audrey Hepburn, very pretty and kept intact could be another ” breakfast at tiffany’s” , unforgettable legend. Just my thought.
